How to read this guide

BuildPilot separates official baseline requirements from our design target. A minimum or recommended spec does not guarantee the high-refresh target in this article, and our Builder estimates are not a substitute for a controlled benchmark.

Start with the official baseline—not the target

Valve currently publishes a minimum rather than a high-refresh recommended tier: Windows 10, four hardware CPU threads, 8GB RAM and a DX11/Shader Model 5-capable GPU with at least 1GB VRAM.

That baseline says almost nothing about a 360 Hz design target, so high-refresh decisions must come from workload behavior and measured/estimated performance—not the minimum list.

Official requirements tell you where support begins. They do not promise 1080p at 360 Hz; BuildPilot treats that as a separate performance-design target.

What matters most for this target

  • CPU performance: prioritize gaming throughput and strong lows.
  • Memory: do not pair an expensive CPU with a weak memory configuration.
  • GPU: choose enough headroom for your exact settings and other games, not a prestige tier.
  • Latency stack: frame rate, display refresh and input path should be considered together.

Settings change the bottleneck

Competitive presets can turn CS2 into a heavily CPU-limited workload. Raising visual quality or resolution increases GPU importance, but 1080p 360 Hz starts from the CPU side.

That is why a recommendation should be tied to your intended preset rather than a generic “best GPU” label. The same monitor can produce two different sensible builds for competitive and image-quality players.

The BuildPilot decision

BuildPilot should compare high-FPS CPUs first, then ensure the GPU is not the new bottleneck at your settings. For mixed gaming libraries, the balanced result may still be preferable.

Use the preset to open the Builder, then enter your real budget. Compare the maximum-FPS profile with the balanced and upgradeable profiles instead of assuming the most expensive option is automatically the best.

What we will not promise

Game patches, maps, background software, drivers, memory configuration and thermal limits can all move performance. BuildPilot uses modeled estimates and component data; it does not claim a fixed FPS guarantee for every scene or patch.
