How to read this guide

BuildPilot separates official baseline requirements from our design target. A minimum or recommended spec does not guarantee the high-refresh target in this article, and our Builder estimates are not a substitute for a controlled benchmark.

Start with the official baseline—not the target

Epic’s recommended PC tier lists a GTX 960 / R9 280-class GPU, Core i5-7300U or Ryzen 3 3300U, 16GB RAM and an NVMe SSD; Epic Quality lists a much stronger RTX 3070 / RX 6700 XT-class GPU.

The gap between Epic’s recommended and Epic Quality tiers is exactly why the intended graphics mode must be part of the build brief.

Official requirements tell you where support begins. They do not promise 1440p at 240 Hz; BuildPilot treats that as a separate performance-design target.

What matters most for this target

  • Pick the rendering mode first: Performance Mode and Epic settings are different workloads.
  • CPU headroom: competitive 240 Hz play can become CPU-sensitive.
  • GPU strength: 1440p Epic-quality play needs materially more graphics performance.
  • Storage: Epic recommends NVMe storage in the current PC spec guidance.

Settings change the bottleneck

Turning down visual quality can shift the limit toward the CPU; turning on heavier visual features moves it back to the GPU. A static “Fortnite PC” label is therefore too vague.

That is why a recommendation should be tied to your intended preset rather than a generic “best GPU” label. The same monitor can produce two different sensible builds for competitive and image-quality players.

The BuildPilot decision

Decide whether the build is primarily for competitive 240 Hz or high-image-quality Fortnite, then let BuildPilot weight CPU and GPU accordingly.

Use the preset to open the Builder, then enter your real budget. Compare the maximum-FPS profile with the balanced and upgradeable profiles instead of assuming the most expensive option is automatically the best.

What we will not promise

Game patches, maps, background software, drivers, memory configuration and thermal limits can all move performance. BuildPilot uses modeled estimates and component data; it does not claim a fixed FPS guarantee for every scene or patch.
