What extra VRAM can and cannot do
Extra VRAM does not double GPU compute performance. It mainly gives the card more room for textures, render targets and workloads that would otherwise spill or require compromises.
Who should prefer 16GB
1440p buyers, texture-heavy game players, mod users and anyone planning a longer ownership cycle have the clearest reason to value the 16GB model—especially when the price premium is modest.
When 8GB can still make sense
If the 8GB card is materially cheaper and the build is focused on lighter 1080p esports or short-term value, keeping budget for CPU, memory or storage may produce the better whole system.
Use price thresholds, not slogans
“Always buy 16GB” is too simplistic. The correct question is how much the extra 8GB costs in your region and what else that money changes in the build.
